Comparision of my vision of year 2020 education with other classmates

I've read all the visions of our classmates in year 2020 in education. They are insightful and quite aspiring. Here I select few points from Changzhi that I wish to strengthen, expand or elaborate.

Technology and Economy
From my vision earlier, it seems that I ignored the strong relationship between technology and economy. Technology development is quite an expensive "extracurricular" activity in those underdeveloped or developing countries. While a government is struggling to feed her people or play partisan games, who cares about education? While a government is helping constructing factories for economic boom or sending more young laborers into workplace, who cares about education reform? In year 2020, microcomputers or related technology may become cheaper and popular in developed countries; however, they still may not be easily accessible in those countries where financial resources are insufficient and the governments are still in the mud of partisan fights.

Shattering Dream of Globalization
In my vision earlier, I dreamed of globalization that people around the world communicate and learn each other's cutltures by internet, and transform this world into a global village. However, I completely agree with Chengzhi's opinion about equality problem in terms of perspective of globalization. As my prior point about technology and economy, a lot of countries are still fighting against poverty and their people are mostly illiterate. Education may be still a luxury in people's life in such country. Globalization, in some sense, do connect some countries to form a big community; however, at the same time, it segregates some others that are still suffering from poverty, sickness, war or whatever.

Technology and Democracy
The reason I bring up this issue is I had a discussion with my classmates in another course because of Starr's report on the internet few weeks ago. While Starr's report is not the focus on my paper, however, freedom and censorship on the internet are related to education. As we all know that whoever controls the information can also controls people's ways of thinking. The internet, taken as the fourth and the most powerful medium (the other three are print, radio and television) in recent 10 years and possibly in the future, will have a great impact on people's live. Within a short period of time (perhaps less than 10 years), a lot of people have enthusiastically involved in this internet-related communication and put everything in the web sites. While all kinds of information are rampantly growing in the internet, people start to think that some of them are inappropriate. Filtering softwares or blocking systems begin to be proposed from educators or system managers. And censorship issue starts to be discussed in the Congress. Are we going to rate the web sites as PG13 or X rated as we did in films? Are we going to block some sites that we conbsider ethically immoral or culturally inappropriate for our common sense? Is it possible that our global village will be torn apart into several villages with different cultures or political standard? The law-makers should take this seriously into account before the law enforcement is enacted that may impede our views of the world.
