With the release of this computer the home PC market started. This was the first computer that reached a mass market audience.  Along with homes, these were also the first computers that were bought by schools for the use of students.  The computer wasone of the first home inits to have a color display.  It also came with 8 expansion ports and a paddle input device.  This was origionally designed to be used with the one game that was include with the system "Breakout".

Once this machine caught on in education.  There was a wide variety of early educational software written for the machine.  I myself remember using this machine in a classroom to play education games about math and reading.  The machines legecy is the early hold that Apple machines had on the world of education.  Even today Apple's largest market is in education.  Just a few years ago while getting my undergrad degree I had a professor say to me, "Macs have an 'M' for 'Music' and IBM has a 'B' for 'Business'".  This belief that Apple machines are meant for use within the schools and IBMs are only used within business settings probably stems from the early success of this machine and the other members of the family of Apple II machines that followed.
