The district supports the following programs, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Eudora, Netscape, and School Vista for teachers. The administration gets access to AS400 which is a database program that provides student information, scheduling and report card processing. Also, at each school in the district, the appointed Webmasters (which, Zan Brixey is one of the lucky few) have access to Dreamweaver and Photoshop. Any stand-alone software is the teacher's reposnsibility. Also, if a teacher wants to upgrade their computer (such as me putting Windows 2000 on my laptop), the district will not provide support if I have any problems.
The district also supports teachers using technology in the following ways:
The pilot program is a program in which teachers learn basic technology skills while receiving a laptop and docking station. The also receive instruction on effective uses of a one-computer classroom and receive a monitor and presentation station. In phase three of the program, the teachers receive five student workstations. Finally in phase four, the teachers become mentors to other pilot teachers starting out.
The district also offers classes through it's Technology Academy. These classes are offered on-site and accumulate credits on the salary schedule. Some of the classes offered are: PowerPoint, Eudora, Excel, Word and Netscape.
Every teacher in the district has the ability to make their own web site, through Learning Village, an IBM product. Here teachers can post weekly assignments or special projects that their students have done. Mentor teachers also developing projects that are being posted on the web. Also, summer projects are taking place that are being posted on the web.
