For this assignment, I found three grants or contests that would improve my teaching with technology. They are listed below.

Compaq Teacher Lesson Plan Contest
This contest involves teachers submitting lesson plans for mathematics, language arts, social studies, science, or problem solving for students from kindergarten to grade twelve. A panel of qualified judges from the Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology will score each lesson plan for creativity, originality and presentation of the subject area. The lesson plan with the most points wins a Compaq computer. For second place, three educators will expand their software library with their choice of five Knowledge Adventure teacher edition titles. Since I don't teach a "core" subject, I would submit a problem-based learning activity that I use for a speech assignment.

Microsoft sponsors the Curriculum Grant Program for middle schools, high schools, and secondary level vocational/technical schools to encourage the development of computer science, programming, web development, and information systems curricula. Schools can receive software licenses for Microsoft Visual Development Tools and operating systems in exchange for posting and sharing current curricula on the MainFunction Web site. Curriculum shared can be a valuable resource to assist instructors who want to offer these courses at their school and need help in developing instructional materials.

National Foundation for the Improvement of Education
NFIE's Leadership Grants underwrite professional development opportunities for public school teachers, public education support personnel, and public higher education faculty and staff, and thereby enable them to provide collegial leadership in efforts to improve teaching and learning. The grant amount is $1,000. NFIE will award up to fifty grants per year. This is a great way to attend conferences or set up a training program for your faculty.

The SMARTer Kids Foundation runs the Project Get SMARTer program on a semi-annual basis. The Foundation is making available twenty SMART Board 560s and Floor Stands. The purpose of the program is to collect and then distribute practical research on how students and teachers can use technology in useful and educational ways. Participants will be expected to provide a final paper that summarizes their findings. In addition, participants will be expected to provide two reports, updating the Foundation on the progress of the research.
