Network Infrastructure

Pekin Public Schools #108 currently operates their network with Novell 4.1. The ATM network(which has a 25 MB connection) has been running since May of 1996. Right now, we are currently using the protocols of 10 Base T, 100 Base T, and Token Ring. By Fall, the whole district will be using a 10/100 Ethernet connection.

As seen in the picture below (courtesy of District #108) each school (9 of them) has a wiring closet in which all of the classrooms are wired into.

The Hub is located at the Central Office and the next picture demonstrates just what is needed to transfer the information to the other individual schools.

Because we are also in conjunction with other community sources, our Wide Area Network looks like this:

More information can be found on the Network Design here:

The implications that this design has for my classroom is that:

When the Internet is down, I can still access my e-mail (since it is a separate server) and vice-versa.

Building connections rarely go down, and when they do it is because something has been tampered with in the wiring closet.

Our network is fairly stable as it seems that only problems that we run into is when the Internet is down between here and Chicago.
