Areas of Responsibility
The technology director is
responsible for maintenance of all faculty and student computers, including the computers
used by students in the library.
The business manager is
responsible for the maintenance of all business office, administration, guidance, and
staff computers.
The Audio-visual equipment
department chair is responsible for maintenance of all free-standing VCRs and DVD players.
If the VCR or DVD player is attached to a computer, then it is the responsibility of the
technology director.
Resolving Problems
If you are having problems with a computer, please check the problem checklist first. If you still cannot resolve the problem please fill out the maintenance form (sample) and place it in the technology director's mailbox. Most problems are resolved within a day. Please be specific when you describe the problem your are having.
Do not describe your problem in an e-mail or go directly to the technician for assistance. Your request will not be processed unless you fill out a maintenance form. Only urgent problems that affect an imminent class presentation will be taken care of without filling out the form.
Personal (home) computers
Carmel does not provide support for home computers. Please do not ask the technology director or the technician for assistance with problems you have with your personal computer.
Both the NT and the Novell servers are backed up daily, except on the weekends. If a file that you have saved to your folder on the network has become corrupted or deleted, you may be able to retrieve it by going to a tape backup of the file. You will need to know approximately when you last accessed a good copy of the file in order to retrieve a good backup copy.
If you are a faculty member, see the technology director to get a backup of your file.
If you are in administration, guidance, the business office or are a staff member, see the business manager to get a backup copy.
In all cases, you must know where (in which folder) your file was saved.
