WAN

WAN (Wide Area Network)

A network in which computers are connected to each other over a long distance, using telephone lines and satellite communications.

Take two local area networks, hook them together, and you've got a WAN. Wide area networks can be made up of interconnected smaller networks spread throughout a building, a state, or the entire globe.

WAN (wide area network)

A communications network that covers a wide geographic area, such as state or country. A LAN (local area network) is contained within a building or complex, and a MAN (metropolitan area network) generally covers a city or suburb.
