Hello Dan --
We've never compiled that figure. It would take an effort to put an
accurate account together insofar as I have not been editor in chief
for very much of the journal's existence. The number might be rather
imprecise given my lack of knowledge of my predecessor's policy.
Figures based on my data alone are perhaps not extremely helpful
because so many of the papers are not yet resolved.
If you send us a detailed description of your research project we
would perhaps better understand the context and could try to provide
a response.
Sincerely -- Jonathan Grudin, Editor, ACM Transactions on

Hi Dan,
Here are the interactions author guidelines. Re: acceptance rate, we don't have firm numbers, but
from my experiences here over the last 3 years, I'd say it's somewhere around 50-60%.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Best,
Jennifer

Not that easy an answer, Dan. Some 85-90% of the feature articles in
CACM have been acquired by the CACM editors so they work with writers,
and reviewers to get an article into acceptable shape.
We still receive about 70 unsolicited manuscripts each year, and of
those about 8-10 are eventually accepted for publication (and about 50
are returned without review because they do not fit the CACM format)
Hope this helps
Diane
