Assignment 2b
C & I 335 Summer 1998 Brian Abeling
The purpose of this assignment was to use Bobby to analyze
my E-Portfolio pages for accessiblity problems.
Bobby rated all of my E-Portfolio pages (index.html, 1a.html,
1c.html, and 1d.html) as four-star. However, it did spot three areas
for improvement on each of the pages:
I really hate to give the use of tables because they are extremely helpful in the layout of web pages. Of course, if I was working on a project that had a wider audience (I'm sorry - I don't believe that my e-portfolio has that wide of an audience:) then I would investigate other design techniques that would avoid tables. Just another thought - if tables are such a hinderance, why was I awarded 4 stars?
Yes, I totally agree that backgrounds CAN make pages unreadable. However, if used correctly, they can really add to the appeal of the page. Unfortunately, Bobby looks solely for the background tag in the HTML, not whether that type of background interfers with the color of text that was choosen. Perhaps the future versions of Bobby could compare the color of the background, the color of the text, and the size of the text and then report any combinations that may create assessiblity problems. In my case, I'm not really worried about the background that's being used since 95% of it is white, and the rest is a really light tan color. This should be easy to fix since text based pages are easy to create. |
