Comparing My Vision with Other Students' Visions

Blessing F. Adeoye

Majority of the students discussed their visions for the use of technology in the year 2020 and some just discussed the values of computer technology on higher education. In most of the paper there was an agreement that technology will impact higher education in the 2020.

In my paper, I addressed collaboration, multiculturalism, and diversity of learners as the factors that will greatly influence higher education as a result of the use of technology.

Collaboration

A vision written by Lin has some similarities to my visions in certain ways. She indicated that more people would increasingly incorporate technology into their curriculum, research, their work, and educational processes. The boundary and/or barrier of communication will become increasingly blurred and a global informational village will gradually be formed. These issues corroborate with some points I made under collaboration

Multiculturalism

Lin also indicates that the U.S. students can communicate with other students from other countries, make friends, and learn each other's cultures. People may start to have deeper appreciation of multiculturalism. I believe this is happening already and we will see more in next years.

I agree with most of Lin's vision, but I challenge her thought that some cultures that have weaker voice internationally will be facing endangerment. I believe there will be more information on the Internet in many other languages. It will become a market place where people shop with those that understand their languages. There will be cross-cultural communication, willingness to learn from each other and tolerate each other.

Emad Alghazo indicates that persons with disabilities all over the world in the year 2020 will have the right to be included in the community and everything else that goes with being part of a community. This point supports my vision of diversity of learners. Students will benefit from technology regardless of their age, color, education, nationality, and location.
