Evaluating Instructional Uses of Streaming Media

An Introduction to Copyright, Fair Use and Intellectual Property - the audio was fairly clear and downloaded quickly. However, I would have remembered more simply from reading the text or script rather than having it read to me. That is my particular learning style. Also, the gray color was dull. A more neutral brown or something else more eye catching would have helped.

Windows Media Demonstration of a Screen-Captured Tutorial  - I really liked this one. Maybe because of the time of day I tried it, I was able to download it faster than the survival of the fittest. The site could be improved by providing a script w/steps for what was demonstrated.

Indonesian Language Lesson -It was interesting to hear the audio. But the pictures were fuzzy. At this point, I was going through a lot of buffering and slow downs with the audio. The video wasn't exciting enough to make me want to go through the slow downs. However, I think the integration of ideas into the site was a  concept worth exploring. I liked the questions at the bottom after the listening exercise.

Auscultation of Heart  - This wasn't what I thought it would be. The audio started long before the video, and then the server timed out in the middle. Perhaps I needed to know what the first word really meant to understand what I was going to be shown? I thought I could figure it out as I went. The major improvement here would be to ensure that the server can handle the traffic, and that audio and video launch at the same time.

Numerical Solution of Boundary Value Problems -   - I think the overall concept of the site, the protype lesson is worth investigation. The biggest problem I experienced here was again buffering of the audio. At times, the explanation wouldn't have been complete, because parts had been skipped while the audio buffered. The audio was clear and easy to understand when it wasn't buffering. Again, for those of us who don't learn well via audio instruction, a text script needs to be included.

August Strindberg -  This one I couldn't ever get to load very well. The audio was ok, but the picture was either blurred, or just a talking head. I find that to be very distracting. It was also very slow.

Rubric for Evaluating Instructional Presentation or Learning - Couldn't get in

Survival of the Fittest - The Fittest What? - long download time, appears to be a talking head, the video and audio do not always happen in sync, overall it seemed flat.
