Resources for Maintaining The Macintosh Computer
The first most useful web resource is Apple support.
This site is the most useful site you will ever find for
supporting your Mac. It gives you links to software downloads,
technical libraries, tech support, tutorials and much more. I
give this a 5 star rating zzzzz.
The second most useful resource is Norton Utilities
3.5 software.
Norton Utilities has been around for a long time helping Mac
users recover from crashed disks and deleted files with UnErase
and volume recover. It is one of the best Mac hard drive
defragment programs using SpeedDisk. It can help you recover data
in the event of a crash using Crash Guard. This is a must for all
Mac users. I give this a 5 star rating zzzzz.
The third most useful resource is Apple Disk
Tools software which comes with
computer when you buy it. The site listed under Apple support has
a choice for troubleshooting your computer and a tutorial which
will help you use the disk tools.
This disk is essential for any Mac user. It contains the program
Disk First Aid, which is a first line defense if your Mac will
not boot from the hard drive. It also contains drive set up
software for updating your hard drive drivers and (God forbid)
the capabilities to reformat your hard drive. I give this a 5
star rating zzzzz.
The fourth most useful web resource is macfixit.
This web site can give you the answer to fixing your Mac
problems. It has links to most of the necessary sites for Mac
software downloads. I give this a 5 star rating zzzzz.
The fifth most useful resource is CanOpener software by Abbott Systems.
Canopener can revive a disk of data when
nothing else can. I have used it to revive many dead disks. I
give this a 4 star rating zzzz. MacWorld review at Http://www.macworld.zdnet.com/pages/may.95/reviews.615.html
The sixth most useful resource is the book Sad
Macs, Bombs and other Disasters by Ted Landau.
This book will be the textbook I use when training staff to take
care of the Macintosh computer. It is to be used as a reference
book. I give this a 5 star rating zzzzz.
