Summary of Acceptable Use Policy

Danville School District 118 has one of the most comprehensive student rights and responsibilities handbooks that you will find. The handbook is titled Ownership in Education. The handbook covers about every inappropriate behavior known to students and teachers. The Technology Acceptable Use Policy is part of this document. A copy is given to every student and they must take it home for a signature from their parents and return it to school. One of the signatures required is the Technology Use Agreement. Disciplinary actions follow the appropriate categories in the Ownership in Education handbook.

The page on acceptable use lists three categories:

  1. Acceptable Use - General school rules apply as stated in the Ownership in Education Handbook. All technology within the school must for the purpose of education or research and be consistent with educational objectives of the District. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR GOOD BEHAVIOR when using school technology.

  2. Privileges - The policy states the use of District technology is a privilege and not a right. Students will suffer the loss of privileges if the technology is used inappropriately. Students may be dropped from a computer class with an "F" if they use technology inappropriately..

  3. Unacceptable Use - The policy lists 10 unacceptable uses of technology.

The policy does not attempt to state all required or proscribed behavior by users.
