Dreamweaver is a wonderfully organized graphical web page editor that allows all users (high school - adult (my opinion)) to create web sites without knowing any HTML coding. The program (all versions from 1 - 5) provide the user with an opportunity to work in programmable windows that look exactly like web page, making it so you can see the effects of your work as you work on your web page. Dreamweaver will let you set up the display of each page and veiw navigable links between the pages you create. As a Dreamweaver user, I would recommend that you learn HTML coding if you seriously plan on using Dreamweaver. Once you learn html, Dreamweaver will allow you to view and edit the HTML on the spot while you view your page. This is something the neither Composer or Frontpage provide. Dreamweaver also has a built in file transfer program that will let you copy (publish) your finished documents to a web server computer. Over the last year I have been able to explore and expand upon my knowledge of Dreamweaver. Unlike similar programs like FrontPage and Navigator Composer, Dreamweaver while in its basic sense is very easy, with just a few lessons the program can be transformed into an incredibly interactive tool for creating web sites with complex organization, graphics, and coding. As a whole, the program is very powerful and has all the features which you would expect to see in a multimedia authoring tool rather than an authoring tool for the Web. The feature which I am most impressed with is its expandability. Not only is it expandable but good documentation is provided in the form of the Behavior Development Kits and users are encouraged to experiment. Over all I have been incredibly impressed with using Macromedia's Dreamweaver and I've recommended it to several of my friends and cohorts in both business and educational technology. There are several active news group dedicated to discussions about Dreamweaver which can be accessed at macromedia.dreamweaver either through your own news server or using the Macromedia news server (forums.macromedia.com).
For more information about the product you can go to http://www.dreamweaver.com or use the Help menu to provide information beyond what I will be able to fit on this page. A wonderful site to go to for a tutorial is http://www.exitnow.com/skillbuilder/viewlets/dreamweaver.htm All sounds throughout the dreamweaver site were gathered from the sound america website and are being used for an educational website. |
