Abstract

Education Reform efforts often involve the integration of technology into the school curriculum. But long before any attempt can be made to implement such efforts, all staff requires training (professional development) to assist in the process of integrating technology into the curriculum.

This study will involve a parochial, elementary school that has made the decision to fund ($100,000 was raised in a fund drive) a brand new, instructional computing laboratory.

An examination will be made as to how the faculty receives the mandate to integrate technology into the curriculum.

  • What is the motivation for the teachers?
  • Are some teachers resistant, and if so, why?
  • If others are not, why not?
Two of the obstacles to training are:
  • time for the training (out of an already busy school day)
  • timeliness of needed technology knowledge ("on time" or "just-in-time")
What may be needed is a custom, online-mechanism to support the individual teacher to aid in the effort to learning on the part of the teacher. This project will attempt to serve as a testing ground in the development of an online web-support with interactive mechanism (chat, message board, etc.) to enhance and motivate the learning process for the individual teacher.
