Web Page Design for Seventh and Eighth Graders
Project Team: Cynthia Clark & Mike Sennert
This project involves setting up a web page unit for seventh and eighth grade students. The software that will be used is Netscape Composer and the students will need to become familiar with these things:
Evaluating web pages on the internet for
useful formats
Creating web pages with HTML
Downloading image files
Testing and viewing files
Setting background images and properties
Inserting tables
Linking text and images
Publishing a web page
Is it up to the teachers to see if there will be time to also include such things as the Netscape Page Wizard, and creating web pages from templates and remote documents.
The teachers will decide the purpose of these web pages. Should they be student centered? Should the students choose their own topic or will the teachers decide the topic? Are there school needs or community needs that need to be addressed on these web pages?
· Personal Web Pages
· Homeroom Class Web Page
· Design a School Web Page
· Design a Web Page for a Local Business
The evaluation of this unit will be based upon rubrics and the completion of the page. Did the students meet the objectives mentioned above?
A problem with this project is the limited use of computers. What kind of activities can be planned so that the students that don’t have computers have something else to do? Should this problem be eliminated by having the students work in groups? Does working in groups take away individual ownership?
· Planning format and layout on paper before using the computer
· Work with a partner or small group on a class web page
· Work with a partner of small group on a business web page
