Resource Website
For
this assignment, I decided to evaluate a website that I allow my students
to use when searching for information for their informative speeches. This
site is www. askjeeves.com, and it
also has a kids' site too, called www.ajkids.com.
I prefer to use askjeeves.com as it returns results that are full of information
and mature enough for seventh and eighth graders to use.
I went to
askjeeves.com and typed in the following question? Where I can find more
information about Bermuda? It came back with four results!
Bermuda
Department of Tourism
Bermuda
Travel Information , by Netweb, a Bermuda ISP

My Evaluation
**Before settling on one web site
to evaluate, I did find that all of the above links worked. I decided to focus
on the website from the Department of Tourism
-
Can move
from page to page easily: Navigation on this site is very easy, as it
has frames and also a site map.
-
Good use
of graphics and color: This site is beautiful, the beginning starts
out with a wonderful flash rendition of flying in to Bermuda, and each section,
Dining, Weddings, and Where to Stay, etc. has pictures that match the information
contained within.
-
Additional
resource links are included: There are numerous links that take visitors
to places outside of the page. These include different florists in the wedding
page, individual shipwreck descriptions on the What to Do page, and links
to individual places to stay.
-
Information
is useful: The information in this site is very useful as it allows
you to plan a family trip, a business trip or a wedding on the island. It
even has a great feature that allows you to plan your own itinerary.
-
Rich content
will likely be revisited: Once the information is found and used for
either a report or a trip, I don't think that the site will be visited again,
unless to provide the searcher with wonderful memories.
-
How this
web site compares in content to similar web sites:
I compared this web site to the Bermuda Travel Information site, and found
this one to have more extensive content. It provides direct government links
to getting forms (such as an application for marriage) and contains information
on such things as weather, electricity, currency, water and transport.
-
All links
work and have been kept current: All of the links work, however some
of them under the individual links (beaches, hotels, florists) are still
under construction
-
Contact
person is stated with e-mail address: There are two points of contact
on this web page. One is direct e-mail and the other is for brochure!
