b. Why did you select this site?
I have used this site for my classroom, but was not impressed by the math games. I wanted to see what this site had to offer.
c. How might the site help you with your major project?
I learned that you can customize this site to fit your own classroom needs. I made a simple Jumble Words Quiz that would fit in with our Solar System Project. http://www.quia.com/jw/20539.html
d. What other uses might teachers have for this site?
I learned a lot!! This was not just a site for math games! It is the “Quintessential Instructional Archive.” Besides having games for skill practice (only a minor part), this site is the directory of online games and quizzes in 40 subject areas. Not only does it provide this service, it allows individual teachers to create and customize their own learning games. There are templates for creating games and tools for making online quizzes. There are also the “Quiz Administrator and Reporting tools” that keep track of scores and even how many people use this game site. They also offer a FREE teacher homepage that can have daily assignments and link this to games and other sites. http://www.quia.com/pages/dfulton.html
e. How did you make use of this site?
After I registered, I made my own homepage, and also used the template to create a simple Word Jumble game for our project. I will use this site in the future for making my own games for students in the areas that I want to cover. I probably will experiment and make online quizzes for students.
f. What did you learn from your explorations?
I learned that quia.com had a lot more services and possibilities than I originally thought. I do not like the “flashcard” games as well as the matching and jumbled word.
g. To whom would you recommend this site, and for what purposes?
I would recommend this to all teachers. It is adaptable to any grade level. It is user friendly, and with the templates for games and quizzes, it is easy.
