Using WebMania!

Created by Darren Loschen for EdPsy 490NET

I found WebMania! while searching the web. I downloaded the WebMania Standard shareware version. This version allowed me to use features that are available in the Professional version during the trial period. To use this product, you must know something about HTML. When you first open the program you will find menus and buttons that look similar to windows programs. You will find buttons for a new page, and to open an existing page. You will also see buttons labeled with some HTML commands like (hr), (p), and (br).

Buttons Available to Use
Button What it does
hr Places a horizontal rule in page with parameters you enter
p Places the paragraph tag in page
br  Places line break in page
dl Places the definition list tag into page
Head Ask for title, keywords to search, and words to use in a scrolling javascript status bar
Body Ask for background graphic, and colors for background, text, and links
Link Asks for the prefix like http, and then the url
Anchor Ask for name to tag to link within page
Image Asks for image file and parameters
Table Creates a table with the information you enter
Frames Helps you use frames

You will also find buttons for bold, italics, underlining, and H1 through H6 which will place the various heading sizes for text on the page. It is best to select the text first that you want to apply this formatting before selecting the button. If you don't have any text selected it will just place the HTML tags into the page. You must then move the cursor in between the opening and closing tags to add the text you want formatted. This also works for the Font command button located in the lower left corner of the screen.

Items I found useful

(List created using list button)

When starting a new page, the following information is asked for

  1. Title for Page--does not appear in Main text of page
  2. Keywords to use for search engines
  3. Words to place in a scrolling status bar message (for those of us who don't know a lot of javascript)
  4. Take a look at an example.  Requires Windows Media Player.
Some things I didn't like

I think this product is more for users who have done some programming with HTML. The page you work with shows HTML commands and if you don't really know what they are doing you can get a little confused. If you want to look at your page without the html commands you can but you can not do any type of work on this page. It just shows you the text you have placed on the page so it is easier to read.
If you know some HTML and want to work with this product I would recommend the Professional edition because tables, frames, and the image map functions are not available in the Standard edition.
