Assessment
- Written Assessment - Students will
complete a written test in which they will demonstrate a knowledge
of concepts covered in this activity. Students will take this test
at the end of this set of activities. The test will cover
vocabulary and basic concepts of evaporation such as how rates of
evaporation can be changed, how to measure evaporation, and other
concepts learned while completing experiments and making
observations. Students will be asked to fill in the blank for
vocabulary, draw conclusions and create illustrations when asked
to elaborate on the activities created in class, and write short
essays to describe what they have learned.
- Informal Checklists - The teacher will
complete informal checklists for groups and individuals as
experiments/projects are completed. Checklist criteria consists of
group interaction, individual participation and discussion,
completion of assignments/activities, accuracy in following
directions or instructions, and appropriate completion of assigned
jobs (from job tags).
- Informal Observations - The teacher
will complete informal observations of group and individual
activities. Appropriate observable activities include peer
assistance, sense of collaboration within a group, understanding
of concepts and tasks, and remaining on task.
- "Water Logs" (booklet) - Students will
be assessed according to completion of Water Log pages. Students
are expected to have pages completed with answers that are
accurate and consistent with their experiment/activity results
(even if not accurate). Students groups are to reflect on the
completion of their activities/experiments (to discuss accuracy of
experiments, techniques and procedures used, and what they learned
from their mistakes). Students are also expected to answer,
respond, and draw conclusions from their recorded results.
- Slide Shows - Small group Slide Show
presentations will be evaluated (including oral presentations).
Slide Show presentations will be evaluated on preparation for oral
presentation, shared completion of project, accuracy of
information, overall appearance of the Slide Show, and slides
demonstrating an understanding of the water cycle and other
concepts covered.
