This is a beginning Hyperstudio Tutorial made by Liz
Sanford to use with the ocean unit- July 21, 2000
When beginning a new stack click on the new stack
picture.
Once you've already saved your stack you will
find it by clicking on open stack.
Once you click on new stack, you will
see a dog that asks you are you sure- click YES
Now the dog tells you that you have
a new stack named "untitled" click OK
You now have a white page that looks
like this:
At the top is a Task Bar that looks
like this:
click on the word that says "TOOLS"
hold it down and bring the toolbox next to your white page
Now click on the word "colors"
at the top and hold it down as you drag it under your tool bar
Your screen now looks like this:
Click on the paint can from the tool
box that is pouring paint- it is black in this picture-
now choose one of the colors
from the box- do not use a pattern! Click
on the page and it will turn to that color.
Now you will need to add a text object
so that you can write text. Click on the word "Objects"
at the top of the page- hold mouse button down and go down
to where it says, "Add a text object" Be sure to read
the screen that comes up and follow the directions.
You will have a box with dashes- click
outside of the box. You will see a screen that looks like
this:
From here you can choose what your
text box will look like. Click on a background color that
goes with your page color. You may choose a different text
color also but make sure the color will show up on the background
you've choosen. click "ok" button
Using the arrow key from your toolbox
you can also drag the box to where you want it on the page. When
you have it where you want it click off of it and you should have
a regular box with your writing and black lines around it.
Make sure all of your writing is visible or that you can scroll
down using the scroll bars.
Now you will add a button to take you
to another page. Go to the "Object" button and
hold down till you have "add a button" highlighted.
You will see this pop up on your screen:
Choose one of the top four buttons
and name your button "next" by typing in the name box.
You may choose a color for the text and background then click
"ok" button. The actions screen will come up-
under "places to go" click on the circle next to "another
card" a new box will come up- click on the right arrow and
then hit the "ok" button. You will then see a transitions
screen:
Choose one of the transitions on the
left- choose "slow" speed click "ok". This
takes you back to the actions-click "done" When
your button appears on the screen you can click the arrow from
the toolbar and place the button anywhere you want it.
Now we need to make more cards.
Go to the "edit" button, hold down till "new card"
is highlighted. Do this till you have enough cards for everyone
in your group. Now when you go to the "move" button
on the task bar and use "previous card" and "next
card" to move around your stack. Go back to the first
card. With the finger tool selected, click on your button
and make sure it takes you to card 2, if not raise your hand for
help.
Now you should choose colors for your
other pages and add text boxes and buttons. Make sure you
use different colors for different cards. Once you have each made
one card and filled in your research you may make new cards if
you need to display more information.
Once you have gotten your pages
okayed by the teacher you may proceed to add pictures to your
stack.
Go to "Object" on the task
bar- hold down till "add a graphic object" is highlighted.
You will then be asked to find the picture from a file.
You will need to have a picture scanned and saved on disk or choose
one of the pictures available from the HS art file. The
picture you choose should go with your text. When you choose
a picture it will come up with a box and a lasso to crop the picture.
If the picture is large just pick a part of it by choosing the
box or lasso and holding down the mouse till you have a box or
a outline around the part you want. Experiment with this-
you will get the marching red ants around your picture- then click
ok. Remember to move your picture you will have to choose
the arrow from the tool box. Move your picture. You may
place only one picture per card.
