Welcome
This is a ocean web quest constructed for third through five graders. It has been created to use with cooperative groups in a jigsaw fashion, but can easily be adapted to fit your individual needs. This ocean quest provides questions for students to use as a guide when searching ocean related web sites. Students will discover information at their own pace and practice using cutting and pasting techniques.
Jigsaw- Students are put into heterogenious groups(grouping 1) of four. Each student is assigned a specific area of study(ocean floor, waves and storms, tides and currents, and pollution). Students use preselected sites to search and discover answers. After they have retrieved their required information (recommend at least 45 minutes), they are put into expert groups. Each area of study now has approximately six students(grouping 2) who have all researched the same web sites. They discuss the information they found, clear up any discrepancies, and revisit the best sites. They are now responsible for teaching their original group the information they acquired. A possible deviation is to have them create a lesson for the entire class.
