Math

  • Mathematicians

This site is a biographical listing of famous mathematicians and scientists. It gives accessibility to information by name or time period in which they lived.

I use this in my classroom as a station during our Renaissance thematic unit. The students go to this site with a data collection grid, recording important and interesting information on their assigned mathematician.

  • Plane Math

This site stimulates and motivates students with physical disabilities in grades 4-7 to pursue aeronautics-related careers via the development and delivery of accessible math education materials on the Internet. It has activities that are linked to a teacher/parent page which provides goals for each activity.

This is a good site to use to supplement many different mathematical ideas. I use it as a station that incorporates the skills that are currently being practiced.

  • Math Lesson Plans and Activities

This site contains a variety of math related sites for educators. Once at this site, you have the option of looking at Lesson Plans, Ideas and Activities, Board Games, Puzzles and Problems, Organiztions, and Applications. It can easily be adapted to fit the needs of your curriculum.

I use this site throughout the year, picking and choosing the lessons that fit my curriculum.

Educational

  • Scott Cunningham has a web page of 180 sites in the education field for grades K-12. These sites are updated monthly and provide educators with a multitude of topics focusing on all subject areas. Some of these are strictly teacher resources. Other sites will be of great interest to students. He encourages teachers to visit one site each day during the school year and by the end of the year you will have visited them all. The URL is:
  • Berit's Best Sites for Children -- Introduce your young child to some of the better Internet sites.

  • Kids Domain -- Get your kids started surfing the internet safely. Good advice for grownups too!

Miscellaneous

  • Enjoy Illinois -- Illinois' official tourism site can help you plan a nearby vacation.

  • UK Plus -- The United Kingdom's Search Engine Links to Princess Diana.
