Kid Pix
Geography Project for 4th Grade
Project
Overview
Students often struggle
with the concept of geographical nesting - the idea that we live in a town,
which is in a county, which is in a state, which is in a country, which
is in a continent, which is on the Earth. This Kid Pix project helps
students see the big picture. Using the templates provided by the
teacher, students design maps of the world, North America, the United States,
and (in our case) Texas. As students add color to the maps, they
designate one color to mark the places that they live. For example,
on the world map, North America would be red; on the North American
map, the United States would be red; on the United States map, Texas
(or your homestate) would be red; on the Texas map, the North Central
Plains would be red; and so on. After adding color and labels
to each map, the Kid Pix slides are put together to make a slide show.
