Overview

This sixth grade thematic unit is a study of Ancient Civilizations and is called Blast to the Past. The anchor subject for this unit of study is science. This unit will integrate the curricular areas of science, math, social studies, and language arts and will relate to the theme. The culminating project will be a timeline, as well as, a virtual artifact museum from the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece and Rome, which will be posted on the school's website.

In the initial stages of this integrated unit, the teacher will help students build background knowledge in all disciplines. As the unit progresses the teacher will act as a facilitator helping students gather information through research. Teams of students will work collaboratively to contribute to the culminating project, the Virtual Ancient Civilization Museum.
