Lesson 6

Pre-lesson Activity: Before we create this page we will have studied plants in Science and learned about the growth of grass. This concept is developed further when the students grow their own grass. We call this "Harry's Hair" because it is grown in a cup with a face on it and tennis shoes. I will have taken a picture of each student with a regular camera and developed the film. We will briefly describe the process of scanning a picture. I will show them how to scan a photograph, but given the age level I will scan the pictures and add them to their pic files.

Objective: The students will complete the page entitled "Student's Work Showcase" page 6.

Materials needed: Scanned picture files, PowerPoint template for page 6, Computer

Time span: 2-40 minute periods

Procedure:

  • The students will insert the work sample picture into the template page using the insert option.
  • The students will then use the picture toolbar to enlarge the picture and select a proper placement.
  • The students will write a caption below the picture in the space provided.
  • The students will add their name in the title bar position.
  • The students will save this page.

Follow-up Activity: The students will review the difference between scanning a picture and using the digital camera. Hopefully this will make a clearer distinction between the two technologies. It should be more concrete at this point.
