| Hello and welcome!
I am currently investigating school-university collaborations in secondary teacher education and in the sciences. My dissertation topic involves how faculty in an online master's degree program make use of a custom-built, web-based tool for providing students with feedback on their assignments. The combination of new tools and new kinds of collaboration holds many challenges, but also many opportunities. I tend to ground my work in Lev Vygotsky's ideas concerning mediation and John Dewey's ideas about valuing. I hold two research assistantships in the University. As a member of the evaluation team for the National Science Foundation-supported GK-12 Project, I am investigating how partnerships between classroom teachers and university doctoral students can change high school science teaching. As a technical and administrative assistant for the Mathematics, English, Technology and Education Resources (METER) project in the College of Education, I help coordinate cross-institutional research and reform efforts involving use of computer technologies by teacher educators, high school teachers, and undergraduates preparing to teach. I also created, maintain, and research uses of various web-enabled databases for the UIUC College of Education's distance master's degree program in Curriculum, Technology, and Educational Reform (CTER), for whom I previously worked as a programmer and research assistant. My academic advisor throughout most of my studies has been Jim Levin, who recently accepted an academic position with the University of San Diego. I have also been privileged to work closely in my research and coursework with UIUC faculty members Chip Bruce, Cynthia Carter Ching, and Renee Clift. This page was last updated on 05/24/04.
