Expectations at School
and in the Classroom
The following is taken from the Streamwood High School (SHS)
Student Handbook. The ultimate purpose of education is to help each student
become an effective citizen in a democracy. I truly believe that all students
can become successful, productive members of our society. The NIA students
at Streamwood High School are expected to use their abilities to achieve success
at school, work and in their communities. Learning to communicate with all
people and following building rules and expectations will help students succeed
at whatever they choose to do following high school.
All teachers at SHS care about the education
of each student and strive to uphold our Mission
Statement.
Students with hearing losses
are expected to follow all teachers’ classroom rules and general building
rules in study hall, study lunch and at school events. NIA teachers will
make sure that all students know and understand these rules. Failure to
follow school rules will result in school consequences. The
Deans’ Office is responsible for helping teachers and students
maintain good discipline. Visit the link to find out more about specific
consequences and you and your student’s responsibilities.
Good attendance is essential
to your student’s achievement. When a student is out of school he/she
misses the instruction and guided practice time given by the instructor.
When the student returns to school the current day’s work is given
and the student has additional work to complete. The student is given the
same number of days to complete missed work as were missed. So if a student
is absent 2 days they are given 2 days to make up the missed work as well
as being responsible for turning in the current work on time. For more information
about attendance policies and absences visit this Attendance
Office link.
In my classroom I try to establish
guidelines for behavior that will improve my students’ careers and
lives once they leave high school. The students and I discuss rules in our
society and the need for them. I teach, use and expect the 4
P’s from all of my students.
