Professional Development

For the past 2 years I have been working on my master’s degree through the University of Illinois in Champaign. The program called CTER, Curriculum, Technology and Education Reform, was presented in an online format. For more information about this program please visit its site at http://cter.ed.uiuc.edu/.

This experience was very valuable as I created many projects for my students to increase their use of technology as well as projects to improve my teaching and technology skills.

These first 3 links below are projects completed as part of the CTER program that provided me the opportunity to grow professionally.

1.    The Code of Ethics for Educators is a set of “rules” to be used when technology is used in an educational setting. My group developed this code in the summer of 2001 as part of a course called Ethical and Policy Issues in Information Technology.

2.    Deafness, Sign Language and Education is an online professional development activity I designed in the summer of 2001 as part of a course called Technology and Education Reform. This online activity would provide any educator with information and skills related to having a student with a hearing loss in his/her classroom.

3.    Documented Accomplishments Contributions to Student Learning is an entry required for National Teacher Board Certification. I produced Entry 4 as part of a class called Issues in Traditional and Alternative Assessment in the fall of 2001.

The next 2 links are organizations I am affiliated with and work with to better the education of students with hearing losses.

1.    Illinois Teachers of Hard of Hearing/Deaf Individuals (ITHI)

2.    Adult Role Models in Education of the Deaf (ARMED)
