Macromedia Dreamweaver 4-Educational Version
Educational Price $98.95

MacroMedia Dreamweaver, an advanced HTML editor, is considered an Industry Standard among professional web designers. I have created several web pages using Claris Homepage and have found Dreamweaver easy to use, yet it offers many advanced features for designers with more experience. The Educational Price of Dreamweaver 4 is $98.95. Considering all the features that come with Dreamweaver 4, this is an extremely fair price. List price of this product is $279.95 and for an advanced web designer, this would still be considered an excellent deal for the features included with this application

Dreamweaver offers site management. Site managers can view folders and change pages while they are still live on the Internet, so your site need not be down while changes and updates are being made. The server shows that someone is working on that particular page, and this prevents more than one person from working on the pages at a time.

When creating pages in Dreamweaver, it offers an FTP for uploading to the server. You simply type in your server information when you begin creating the page and this information is saved with the document. This option is nice because then you do not have to type in your FTP information each time you want to upload your page. However, you are not required to use the FTP built into Dreamweaver, the application also allows you to use a seperate FTP.

Another nice feature of Dreamweaver is when you are uploading your HTML documents, Dreamweaver automatically uploads dependant files of that page. This means any graphics, animations, etc. that are on your page, are automatically uploaded with the original document. It will also allow you to synchronize your documents. It automatically compares folders and updates any old files with the most recent version. This is true for any HTML pages as well as dependent files such as graphics or Quicktime.

Dreamweaver allows users to incorporate all of the Macromedia industry standard file formats into thier web pages.

Macromedia Industry Standard Files

  • Fireworks
  • Flash
  • Shockwave

Below is an example of a Shockwave file.
