Final Project Evaluation

I conducted two types of evaluation for this project, formative as well as summative.

I worked with students while I was developing the product.  Since the tutorial was meant to be used by the students, I wanted to be sure that the instructions would be understandable.  During the development stage, I gave each section to a variety of students.  They were asked to work through the lesson to the best of their ability.  Afterwards, each student was asked to report on any difficulties he/she encountered.  I then adjusted the instructions to clear up any of the misunderstandings.

The second evaluation was done when the entire tutorial was finished.  That evaluation was a more formal one.  A copy of the survey can be viewed by clicking here.  The survey was originally in printed form, but I converted it to the webpage form as a way to practice some JavaScript techniques.

The results of the summative evaluation showed that most of the students:

    • felt that the tutorial to be either interesting or very interesting.
    • had some difficulty understanding the format.
    • thought the graphs definitely helped explain the concepts.
    • improved their scores on the self-test.
    • want to see more tutorials like this one.

    •
My research showed that this type of technology could be very effective in teaching graph transformations.  Therefore I intend to develop more tutorials similar to this one.  I also learned where the students had most difficulty understanding the instructions and plan to apply that information to make improvments next time around.
