Draft Proposal for Project for CI335

Web-Based Training for Higher Education

Participants  Linda Burke, Amy Fahey, John Owrey

Introduction

We are three faculty and academic professionals in higher education, with responsibilities in assisting our colleagues in taking the technology plunge (or wade as the case may be). Our common interest is in assisting faculty who wish to acquire both skills and perspective in using Web-based technology in their teaching. We discussed methods which would be supportive of our colleagues, and allow self-directed learning to take place. We decided a web site which was accessible to our faculty might offer these options. The site could be used either as alternative to individual tutoring or supplement to it.

Background

Linda Burke is the Technology Coordinator of the School of Education of Saint Xavier University, Chicago. Her role (on top of a regular teaching load) is to bring the SOE web page online and train faculty to use the Web and other technology in their teaching. Amy Fahey is Director, Office of Information Technology and Systems in the College of Applied Life Studies , University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign . She is the College webmaster and manages the colleges technology resources.  John wants to reach educators new to delivering courses on the web.
