Hyperstudio
This is a program
that is set up to represent a stack of index cards. All the cards
in the stack are connected by buttons. The cards can have text, graphics,
sound, and video on them. Students create each card individually
and link them together in a manner similar to a web page. Teachers
can create templates of cards that students can later fill in, or they
can allow students to create the entire stack independently. An advantage
to this program is that students can create and display their work without
having to link to the internet. This is helpful in classrooms where
internet access is limited.
Explorers of the New World CD-ROM
This CD-ROM
is published by Future Vision Multimedia, Inc. It requires the use
of Quicktime, Sound manager, and Multimedia software to run. It is
both an interactive program and a reference program. Students can
use it interactively to find out about life in the time of the early explorers
and to learn about navigation methods used back then. They can also
follow certain explorers through their journeys. For those who are
simply looking for research material, the program can be used as a reference
library on the lives and journeys of the explorers.
This is an
excellent website for students doing research in history. The site
contains several general topics relating to different time periods.
Each time period contains links to timelines, photos, information on specific
topics, etc. The site also has links to student helps, historical
sites, etc. It's well organized and easy to navigate.
This is a very
useful website for teachers who would like their students to do a webquest.
It contains all the information a teacher would need to organize a webquest,
including training materials and examples of successful webquests done
by other teachers. It also has a chat room and email list for teachers
to share what they have learned from developing and running their webquests.
The ALI website
is a forum for teachers to share the units, lessons, projects, etc. that
they have created. Teachers can search for units of practice, which
are organized both by subject and grade level. ALI also contains
a large number of collaborative projects that teachers and students can
work on with others. Each project is "an example of technology-rich multidisciplinary
instruction."
