Personal History
I was born in Chicago
and grew up in the suburb of Glen
Ellyn. In 1975, I graduated from Glenbard
West High School and entered Illinois
State University. There I earned 2 different Bachelor's degrees.
I received the first one, a Bachelor of Science with a major in Elementary
Education, in 1979. The second degree, which I received in 1980,
was a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in English Education
and a minor in Reading Education. I have teaching certificates for both
K-9 self-contained and 6-12 English.
In 1981, I married
a wonderful man, Richard. We have
4 sons and a cat. Phil is 19,
Eric
is 17, Scott is 15, and Keith
is 10. K.C. (Kitty Cat) is 6.
For the past 20 years,
I have been living in
Springfield,
IL. This will be my 13th year working in District
186. Currently I am at Dubois
School where I teach 5th grade. This past summer I completed
the
CTER (Curriculum,
Technology, and Education Reform) Master's program at the
University
of Illinois.
In my spare (ha, ha)
time, I volunteer as a Cub Scout leader and a historical interpreter at
New
Salem and at Lincoln's Home.
I also enjoy doing various types of needlework, including embroidery, crochet,
quilting, tatting, and bobbin lace, and have a strong interest in geneology.
