I am especially interested in software development for educational purposes. I was glad to find two sources on the Web from major software developers that addressed the issue of accessibility. First, Microsoft at www.microsoft.com/enable/ is continuing to improve the accessibility options that are already included in Windows 95. (I discussed these in assignment 2b.) Second, Sun Microsystems at www.usec.sun.com/tech/access/software.guides.html is encouraging all software application developers to include certain standards for accessibility such as MouseKeys and togglekeys. As a teacher and a staff development instructor, this will make my life easier. I will not have to update and reteach access options each time we buy a new software program. The same is true for the students who will not have to worry about which options are available in which programs and which keys do what.
