The
State of Indiana does not support inservices on the Internet or the use
of software packages. Our institution is under the Department of Health,
which considers education secondary to physical health issues. We are at
the mercy of outdated ideas that Silvercrest is a short term residential
center solely for physically handicapped children.
Furthermore,
there is only one computer setup for the Internet in the entire building,
and it has been out of commission for over a week. Network administrators
are told to focus on Intranet problems.
Any
software packages have been gained through our own monies or through occasional
grants we write. The funds for our classroom supplies are often diverted,
and unfortunately, our orders are seldom filled.
