Using the information from the KWL-H activity, begin to develop research questions. Research questions are complex. The answer will not be readily available;it requires analysis and synthesis of your findings.

To complete this phase, do the following:

1. Select two of the topics from your KWH-L chart, i.e., colonization, imperialism, western expansion, cultural pluralism, and pre-industrialization.
2. Create a chart like the one that follows and

• Fill in the topic and ask three thoughtful questions about that topic that are not yes/no or simple one-word answers.
• In the source box record the publication/documentation information for each source. Not every source will answer every question, but good sources will answer most of your thoughtful questions. NOTE: If there are more blanks than answers do more research or change the questions. Sources will contradict each other.
• In the summary box include a compiled answer to each question you asked,
