About Me

My first view of this world was a small hospital in Shelbyville, Illinois. Twenty-two years of my life were spent on a farm in Central Illinois, near the town of Sullivan.  We had a dairy herd, raised hogs, chickens, soybeans, corn, and Black Angus Cattle.

My interest in teaching began as early as second grade when
Mrs. White (my second grade teacher) sent me outside to sit on the steps and tutor other students in reading.   During  high school, I worked at summer school programs, went to Europe with the People to People High School Ambassador program, and worked at a camp for physically and mentally challenged children,
who had never been to school.

When I was ready to choose a college, I had to make a choice between  teaching and computers.  I decided to attend Illinois State University in Normal, Ill to pursue a career in Special Education.

After graduation, I planned and implemented a Resource Room program in Alpha, Il.  Two years later, I was married and moved to Las Cruces, NM where  I created a new reading lab program.
In 2 more years, we moved to Raton, NM where I taught in a Resource Room with 3 other teachers.  Finally, we moved to our present location in the village of Magdalena, NM.  I was hired to plan and operate a new self-contained classroom for children with severe emotional and behavioral problems.  I taught in that classroom for 19 years before planning and implementing 2 inclusions classrooms.  This year I will be teaching
in a fourth grade inclusion classroom

My husband and I have one son who is in the US Army.
In my spare time, I enjoy counted cross stitch projects, walking, reading, and playing the piano. My other free time is spent with my church as a co-teacher of the adult Sunday School class, choir director, and church organist.
