The idea or focus of my project proposal is the need for a resource site for elementary general music teachers. Once of the first tasks a general music teacher considers is the gathering of song and listening materials. While some school districts provide a music series texts, the materials used in these texts are often out of date, not conceptually oriented and not conceptually sequenced. Thus, many music teachers go on exploratory searches to gather lesson materials.

Once of the first tasks a general music teacher considers is the gathering of song and listening materials. While some school districts provide a music series texts, the materials used in these texts are often out of date, not conceptually oriented and not conceptually sequenced. Thus, many music teachers go on exploratory searches to gather lesson materials.

Included in this initial project goal will be a feedback form that addresses the usefulness to teachers who visit the site. I currently have three groups that are able to view and respond when the pages are available. The groups include: six junior music majors who are currently "coach" teaching with me at Holy Cross, a sophomore general music class, and a non-major music class that has approximately 70 students learning how to use music activities in their elementary classrooms. None of the groups are actually "out" teaching but I feel that their need for materials could possibly be even greater than the needs of those currently teaching.

Over the last couple of months I have taken my song collection and created a database with its materials. I am able to search the collection for specific music concepts and have it return all the songs that have that concept as a primary or secondary focus. The collection is also searchable by thematic subjects. I will be using this database as a starting point for my search page. While I could write much more detailing the process that I will follow to create such a site, I am not including those details in this proposal letter.
