I used Bobby to check the accessibility of my ePortfolio Pages and the pages which are linked to my ePortfolio Page. Following are the results of of this check:
ePortfolio Page:
Results: Four
Stars: No accessibility problems were found.
Changes: No changes were
made.
Personal Curricular Hot Links
Page:
Results: Four
Stars: No accessibility problems were found.
Changes: No changes were
made.
Activity Pages:
Results: Although
this page earned four stars, one accessibility problem was identified
because I included a table, which is often "incorrectly read by
screen readers."
Changes: I did not make any
changes to this page because I received four stars. However, I am now
aware of the problem, and may avoid using them on future pages.
Rather, I may use lists.
Activity 1C:
Results: I first
earned three stars for this page because the links needed to be
separated.
Changes: Rather than making
our names the links, I created buttons that became the links. This
separated the links, and the site received four stars.
Activity 1D:
Results: Four
Stars: No accessibility problems were found.
Changes: No changes were
made.
After using Bobby to identify accessibility problems, I am now more aware of alternative page design strategies that may be used to help people with certain disabilities. (1) Avoid excessive use of elaborate graphics; (2) Make adjacent links very clear and separate; (3) Use lists rather than tables to organize information; (4) Name graphics using Alternative Description Titles so that a sight-imparied person will be able to hear what the image is. I will keep these strategies in mind when creating additional web pages.
