Alternative page design strategies.
During future staff development sessions in which I show staff how to develop web pages, I plan to take what I learned in this activity to practice. First, I will provide reasoning for making your pages not only world-readable, but readable by everyone. I will provide the top 5 things to think about when creating web pages, including:
1. Limit the number of conflicting backgrounds, colors and fonts that make the pages difficult to read.
2. Avoid frames. If not, provide a text-only site.
3. Limit the number and complexity of tables.
4. Provide labels for all images.
5. Run your pages through Bobby or other utilities.
Another couple of sites that I will suggest include:
10 Ways for Making Your Pages more Accessible - a site that has its own top 10 list of issues to consider when creating web pages so all may access it easily.
EASI's K to 12 Education Technology Centre - EASI or Equal Access to Software and Information has an extensive site for assisting teachers, parents, and administrators with adaptive technologies. Included within the site are such topics including:
