| Project Scenario: |
| National Safety Awareness month is approaching and you have been hired by the National Safety Council (NSC) to present issues and concerns associated with natural disasters. You will be participating in a round robin panel discussion where power point presentations will be given and time will be allotted for questions. Therefore, you must have a thorough understanding of the natural disaster which you are presesenting and general knowledge of all natural disasters. |

We will make use of the books in our media center as well as books checked out from the local library. We will use the technology center to access the informational online links and streaming media provided below. We will also view videos from Discover School on different types of disasters. |
Activities:![]() |

1. After presenting the project overview, students will use the links provided on the website to complete their web-based field trips. They will be given report sheets to demonstrate their learning and will pass an online safety examination testing their knowledge of natural disasters with 80% accuracy. |

2. All students will be expected to complete question sheets by using the website links provided. Each student will demostrate correct use of word processing skills to complete a one-page report on a given facet of their research. |
|
3. After acquiring general information on the earth and weather, students will form groups of four. Each group will be assigned a specific "natural disaster" topic. These topics include hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis and floods, and lightning and thunder. |
|
4. Student teams will read printed material and use the websites and video clips provided to gain information on their assigned topics. |
|
5. Student teams will produce power point presentations to demonstrate their learning in regards to their particular topic. They will present their learning to the council and invited guests. They will produce a brochure for the council to use as reference material. |
