California Sea Lion
Description California sea lions are fast, graceful swimmers. Like all other pinnipeds, sea lions are warm-blooded mammals. They breath air, are born alive (that is, not from eggs), and nurse their young. They have chocolate-brown coats and doglike muzzles. Males are distinguished by their larger size.
Habitat They live in many areas of North America’s western coast, from British Columbia southward through the United States to the Tres Marias Islands off of Baja California, Mexico.
Food California sea lions eat squid and octopus as well as a variety of fish—herring, rockfish, mackerel, anchovies, and lampreys.
