Vilzak, Anatole, b. St Petersburg, 1896. Russian dancer. Graduated
from Imperial School into Maryinsky, 1915, partnered Kchessinska, Trefilova,
Karsavina, Spessivtseva. Left Russia 1921 and joined Diaghilev. In early
1930s, he was premier danceur and ballet master at State Opera,
Riga, Latvia. In 1936, he joined R. Blum's Ballet de Monte Carlo. Taught
at Ballet Russe School in New York, Washington 1963-65, since 1965 taught
at San Francisco Ballet School.
Vladimirov, Pierre (Pyotr), b. St Petersburg, 1893; d. New York, 1970.
Russian dancer. Graduated from Imperial School into Maryinsky 1911. On
leave, danced with Diaghilev's Ballets Russes 1912 and 1914, taking over
several of Nijinsky's roles. Left Russia 1918, rejoined Diaghilev 1921-22
and 1925-28. Partnered Anna Pavlova from 1928 until her death in 1931.
Invited by Balanchine to join faculty of School of Amercican Ballet 1934,
taught there until he retired in 1966.
Volinin, Aleksandr, b. Moscow, 1882; d. Paris, 1955. Russian dancer
and teacher. Graduated Moscow Theatre School, class of Tikhomirov, also
studied with Gorsky. Danced with Diaghilev Ballets summer 1910 with Geltser;
also toured with Genée as her partner, and 1914-25 permanent partner
of A. Pavlova. He taught in Paris in his own school until his death. Greatly
influenced Daydé, Chauviré, Babilée, Lichine, Riabouchinska,
Jeanmaire.

Woidzikowski, Leon, b. Warsaw, 1897; d. Warsaw, 1975. Polish dancer,
ballet master, and teacher. Studied Warsaw Ballet School and in 1915 joined
Diaghilev Co. staying until 1929. Danced in early seasons of Ballet Russe
de Monte Carlo and from 1935-37 has his own company, Les Ballets de Leon
Woizikowski, which toured Europe. Worked with Massine's Ballet Europeo
1959, then in Cologne, Bonn and Antwerp. He returned to Poland shortly
before his death.
