Originally from the east coast, my family and I moved to Illinois is 1985. I spent 15 years at home raising my children but have recently ventured back into the real world. I graduated from Emory University in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. I taught first and third grades in New Jersey before moving to Springfield. While a stay-at-home mom, I was active volunteer in a variety of community organizations. Highlights of my involvement include my tenure as PTO president, participation as a board member of the Springfield Public Schools Foundation, serving as secretary of Camp COCO and Camp Care-A-Lot, and being a candidate for the Springfield School Board. Two of my children attend the Springfield Ball Charter School where I teach half-time (fulltime starting in the fall of 2001). I also have a high school junior and a  seventh grader. I love to exercise, scrapbook, play on the computer and eat anything chocolate! After completing the CTER program, I hope to find the perfect job where I can work with kids, play on the computer and make a small fortune. Click here to see my online professional portfolio.

Some of My Favorite Web Sites

Cool Clip Art is a site that offers free graphics that can be used for desktop publishing and student projects.

The Global Schoolhouse provides an international forum for teachers, parents, and students.

Surf the Net With Kids is a fun, safe place for students and parents to learn about some of the most interesting sites on the Internet.

Check out Book Adventure. At this site you can encourage reading with at-home incentives, find help with homework, and play fun on-line games. The parent's forum is a great resource as well.

Coolmath.com is an amusement park of mathematics and more! You can practice your facts or try and see if you can solve some brain benders. This site offers challenge and support whether you are 3 or 103.

KidsClick! This is an excellent search engine created for kids by librarians.

If you teach kindergarten or first grade, you must check out KinderKorner. Victoria Smith offers thematic units complete with ideas to integrate literature, art and content study.
