The survey project we are about to undertake will provide an opportunity for students to  investigate statistical research procedures first hand. Components of the project include:
 

•      identifying and developing a survey question,
•      using problem solving and decision making strategies,
•      learning research skills,
•      developing project management strategies,
•      keeping daily learning logs,
•      evaluating the process and product,
•      using the computer to create tables, graphs, and a web page,
•      keeping an on-line portfolio of results.

With teacher support and coaching the students will learn how to decide on an appropriate survey question, how to develop a plan of action and follow it through, and how to monitor the process.

The students will be working in groups of four on this project. I expect the students to be on task at all times in the classroom. If students are not on task, they will be asked to complete an alternate assignment for the remainder of the project.
