Celery and Carrot Stem
Materials:

a large, fresh celery stalk with
leaves attached

a large carrot
-
jars or drinking glasses
-
red or blue food coloring
-
a paring knife
Procedure:

Cut about 1 inch off the bottom
of the celery stalk. Cut about 1 inch off the narrow end of the carrot.

Put water in the jars to the depth
of about 2 inches
-
Color the water with food coloring.

Put the celery stalk, cut end down,
in one of the jars.

Put the carrot stalk, cut end down,
in the other jar.
-
Let them stand for twenty-four
hours.
