How Leaves Give Off
Moisture
Materials:
-
a thick leaf with a long stem
-
two glasses
-
a piece of thin cardboard
-
modeling clay
-
water
-
pencil
Procedure:
-
With a point of a pencil, make
a small hole in the center of a piece of cardboard.
-
Push the stem of the leaf through
the hole in the cardboard until the bottom of the leaf touches the cardboard.
-
The stem should be on the underside
of the cardboard.
-
To seal the hole, you want to press
small amounts of clay against the cardboard, so moisture will not come
through.
-
Fill up one of the glasses with
water and place the cardboard on top of the glass.
-
You need to make sure that the
cardboard completely covers the glass and the stem of the leaf is in the
water.
-
Now put the other glass that is
empty upside down over the leaf. The glasses should be directly on top
of each other.
-
Place the glasses in the direct
sunlight for a couple of hours.
