I 407 - Summer CTER
Overview of Project:
My individual curriculum change focuses on the area of social studies. This project will be used with 4th and 5th grade students at Ridgely elementary. It is my goal to create activities and lessons that steer social studies into a more project-based learning model. To reach this goal my changes include the use of the newest technologies available to teachers, cooperative learning groups, and project based activities. My social studies project builds on the theme of our learning community. The students will create a web page tour - virtual tour/field trip- of their school and it's immediate community. This project will utilize a project-based learning model. Students will visit other virtual tour sites and decide how we can create one of our own. By grouping the class, students will each work on a piece of the tour. After writing their narrative they will learn how to create a web page with this information. Students will use photos taken with the school digital camera and their narratives that are typed into Claris. The final project will be linked to the school home page. Students will also keep in contact with their e-pals about this project. Their e-pals are also creating a virtual tour. The two classrooms will be able to share their schools with each other through their web creations. This project-based learning model will be continued throughout the school year. Students will be encouraged to add to this page or to branch off and create a new page. Articles that the students create could become an idea for an on-line student newsletter. |
