As School District 70 moves into publishing on the web by teachers and students, guidelines have been established. While the majority of the school web page has been managed by the Webmaster, it is hoped that in the near future, teachers will begin publishing on the web and in turn, the students will have opportunities to share their work as well. Progress has been made on behalf of the teachers with a number of them participating in a training session for TeacherWeb, a free, personalized web page creating "service" for educators.
With this in mind, the following guidelines will need to be observed...
Content Guidelines for
Web Publishing
(thanks to Community High
School Internet
work Policy Statement)
Teachers and students will be allowed to produce materials for electronic publication on the Internet. The network administrator will monitor these materials to ensure compliance with content standards.
TEACHER web pages will be developed with
the following guidelines in mind:
1. All subject matter
on District 70 web pages must relate to curriculum and instruction, school-authorized
activities or information about the district. The district web page
will not provide access to personal web pages of teachers or staff.
2. The teacher responsible
for the web page will edit, test the document for accurate links, and ensure
that the page meets the content standards listed in #1. Furthermore,
the teacher will assume responsibility for updating links as needed.
3. At the bottom of the
page, there must be the date of the last update of the page and the name
of the person responsible for the page, including email link. (not including
the TeacherWeb format)
4. On the first page,
there must be a link that returns the user to the district
web page.
5. While creating the
web page, please keep in mind the K.I.S.S, principal...
keep it simple.
6. Pages may not contain
links to other pages that are not yet completed. If further pages
are anticipated but not yet developed, the text that will provide the link
should be included, but may not be "activated" until the further page is
actually in place.
The content of STUDENT materials is constrained
by the following restrictions:
1. No personal information
about a student will be allowed. This includes home telephone numbers and
addresses, as well as information regarding the specific location of any
student at any given time. Also, student email addresses or links
to personal web pages will not be permitted.
2. All student works
must be signed with the student's full name.
3. Individuals in pictures,
movies or sound recordings may be identified only by initials (e.g. JQP
for John Q. Public) or first names. Absolutely no first with last names
may appear in reference to individuals in any image, movie, or sound recording.
4. All work must be free
of any spelling or grammatical errors.
5. No text, image, movie
or sound that contains pornography, profanity, obscenity, or language that
offends or tends to degrade others will be allowed.
6. No student work will
be published without the permission of the student and parent or guardian.
